Donovan Tildesley 2012 Paralympic Games
The Games are about to begin!
Yesterday, August 23, the Canadian Swim Team finally arrived in the Paralympic Village. The accommodations consist of large apartment buildings, with two athletes per room. There is also wifi in every apartment, which is a far cry from my first Paralympic Games back in Sydney 2000! The selection in the dining hall, the cafeteria tent which takes up the space of approximately one city block, is excellent! Out of the four Games I’ve attended, this is by far my favourite Village!
Our travel day from Italy to London went relatively flawlessly. Once at Gatwick, it didn’t take long for the team to get our temporary accreditations. I had just boarded the bus, which would take us to the Village, when Craig McCord, our head coach, asked another athlete and me to disembark. No, we weren’t in any trouble with UK immigration! A media person from the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) wanted to chat with us. Apparently he’ll then be sending the TV clips to newsrooms all over Canada.
I’ve swam in both the training and the racing pool, and both feel incredibly fast!
Today the CPC announced the schedule for coverage:
Keep an eye out for the Canadians!
